Explosive
Explosive - explosive is a solid liquid or mixture of substance those containing large chemical energy that can be quickly converted into heat,gas and mechanical work in very short period.
Types of Explosive-
There are two types of explosives in use -
1.Low explosive 2.high explosive
Low explosive- it is the mechanical mixture of finely ground combustible substances those are mixed by ignition and have heaving effect. the process of combustion due to ignition of the combustible material is from grain to grain.there is gradual build up of pressure with the gradual increase in the volume or gases produced due to grain to grain combustion.

Advantage of Low explosive-
1.low cost.
2.ground vibration is low.
3.It can be ignited by safety fuse.
Disadvantage of Low explosive-
1.V.O.D.(velocity of detonation) is low.
2.It can't be used in watery holes.
3.high amount of smoke produced.
High Explosive- high explosive is the chemical explosive compounds mixed mechanically when detonated undergo instantaneous chemical decomposition and reaction to produce enormous amount of gases building sudden high pressure in confinements which cause shattering affect. The main constituents of high explosive are the chemical compounds which are explosive themselves by nature. These chemicals are mixed with other combustible materials. When such mixture is blasted by detonator, the chemical compounds and the combustible instantaneously undergo chemical decomposition and chain reactions start. The decomposition and chain reaction produce 2000 times -4500 times the volume of gases.
Examples- TNT, ANFO, Dynamite, Nitroglycerin, etc.

Advantages of High explosives-
1. V.O.D.(velocity of detonation) is high.
2.It produces low smoke.
3.Blasting performance is very good.
4.Excellent water resistance.
5.Batter fragmentation is achieved.
Disadvantage of Low explosive-
1.Cost of explosive is high.
2.It produce more ground vibration.
3.Produce more amount of dust.
