Wire Rope- वायर रोप वायर के Strands (तंतुओं) के Special arrangements से बना होता है, यह वायर के कई तंतुओं (Strands) को twist करके बनाया जाता है।

Classification of wire Rope-

1. बनावट के आधार पर (Classification on the basis of construction)-

i) Stranded wire rope

ii) Non Stranded wire rope

2. गति के आधार पर(on the basis of movement)-

i) Running Rope

ii) Stationary Rope

iii)Guide Rope

3. कोर के आधार पर (On the basis of Core)-

i)Fibre core wire rope

ii)Steel core wire rope

iii)Independent Wire rope core type wire rope.

4.On the basis of laying arrangements-

i)Ordinary lay wire rope

  a)Right hand ordinary lay wire rope

   b)Left hand Ordinary lay wire rope

ii) Lang's lay wire rope

   a)Right hand Lang's lay wire rope

   b)Left hand Lang's lay wire rope

1. बनावट के आधार पर (On the basis of construction)-

i)Stranded wire rope- ऐसा wire rope जिसे एक centre core के ऊपर  तंतुओं(strands) को चारों ओर (Concentrically) twist करके बनाया गया हो तो इस प्रकार के वायर रोप को Stranded wire rope कहा जाता है। ये ropes running ropes होते हैं।

Strands- यह सेंट्रल स्टील वायर के  around कुछ wires को Concentrically twist करके बनाया जाता है|

-6×7 wire rope का मतलब है कि wire rope 6 strands से मिलकर बना है और प्रत्येक Strand 7 वायर से मिलकर बना होता है।

Uses-

 running ropes का उपयोग winding,Arial ropeways,haulage,shaft sinking,manriding,etc मैं किया जाता है।

Advantages of Stranded wire ropes-

1. इनमें लचीलापन (flexibility) अधिक होती है।
2. इनका splicing किया जा सकता है।
3. इनका बनावट(construction) सरल होता है।
4. इनका capping सरल होता है।

Disadvantages of Stranded wire rope-

1. यह non Stranded wire ropes की तुलना में कम भार सहन कर सकते हैं।
2. इनमें spinning अधिक होता है।
3. इनका factor of safety कम होता है।

ii) Non Stranded wire rope- 

इस प्रकार के wire rope का मध्य भाग (central portion) मोटी(thick) wire के strand से बना होता है और इसके बाहरी भाग(outer layer) में round wire को विशेष आकार के I-section,rail section, trapezoidal section के बीच में रख कर(placed) करके बनाया जाता है ताकि यह दूसरे से लॉक हो जाए। इन्हें Locked coil wire rope भी कहा जाता है।
Locked coil wire rope अधिक heavy और strong तथा कम flexible होते हैं।

Uses-
 इनका उपयोग shaft में guide rope के रूप में,Bicable arial ropeways में bucket supporting के रूप में, आदि जगहों पर होते हैं।

Advantages of Non Stranded wire rope-

1. इन wire rope का factor of safety अधिक होता है।
2.यह non spinning quality का होता है।
3. यह Stranded wire rope की तुलना में अधिक भार (load) सहन कर सकते हैं।

Disadvantages of Non Stranded wire rope-

1. इनका बनावट (construction) कठिन होता है।
2. इनका splicing नहीं किया सकता।
3. यह कम flexible होते हैं।
4. इनका Capping कठिन होता है।
